The clerk for the B.C. Legislature says the government was notified of a heightened concern from Ottawa “a few days” prior to the shooting that claimed the life of a Canadian soldier.
Craig James told reporters Wednesday that the B.C. government “received information there may be a problem” from Ottawa earlier this week, but did not specify what information was received.
However, the B.C. Legislature was not in immediate danger, he said.
“We are regularly in contact with the appropriate agencies to determine our response in B.C.,” said Gary Lenz, sergeant-at-arms for the Legislature. “We’ll continue to monitor those and respond appropriately at that time. And at this point there is no specific threat against this parliament. “
Public access to the Legislature was closed Wednesday in light of the shootings, but the building remained opened to pre-arranged group tours, such as those for school kids.
The Legislature was still expected to sit as planned at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Premier Christy Clark is expected to issue a statement on the shootings later today.
