Scammers are using the name of a Langley, B.C. family of Lotto Max winners to trick people into handing over personal information.

Retired steelworker Friedrich Mayrhofer, his wife Annand and their son Eric claimed their massive $50 million jackpot last month.

Now, people are receiving emails and texts claiming to be from the “Mayrhofer Foundation” that promise to hand over up to $1 million in exchange for sensitive personal details.

B.C. lottery officials are aware of the scam and have reported it to authorities.
