KAMLOOPS, B.C. - B.C.'s health minister will travel to a psychiatric centre where a nurse was violently attacked by a patient in Kamloops, B.C.
Terry Lake says he will meet on Friday with B.C. Nurses' Union president Gayle Duteil and representatives at Interior Health to review the incident at Hillside Centre.
He says a nurse was injured in an assault by a patient on Wednesday night and is recovering at home after receiving treatment for her injuries.
Lake says he has also convened a team of representatives from the ministry, union and health authority to investigate the attack and make recommendations on improving safety at the facility.
Duteil says the incident is the second serious assault at Hillside Centre in four months and it underscores the urgent need to make nurses safer.
The 44-bed facility, which cares for adults and seniors with acute illnesses and severely dysfunctional behaviours, has had ongoing issues with violence toward nurses.
