A brazen gunman who opened fired into a crowd of people outside a Maple Ridge pub early Sunday morning remains on the loose.

Witnesses said the shooter approached the Haney Public House on Lougheed Highway shortly after 2 a.m., pulled out a gun and fired a hail of bullets toward the entrance.

Rick Huddlestone was staying at a hotel near the pub and came outside after hearing the shots.

“There was a person that was lying on the ground being tended to. It looked like they might have been arterial wounds, [paramedics] were applying pressure bandages,” Huddlestone said.

Mounties confirm two doormen were hit in the leg and taken to hospital, while two other bystanders were treated for injuries at the scene and released.

Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said it’s fortunate no one else was hurt, given the circumstances.

“It is shocking,” Dunlop said. “It seems that it was targeted towards people at the venue, certain people.”

A bar employee told CTV News the shooter was a bar patron who was involved in an altercation earlier in the night and escorted out.

No arrests have been made and police have yet to release a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Const. Brent Wilcott at 604-467-7685, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if the tipster wishes to remain anonymous.
