Momentum for BC New Democrat leadership candidate John Horgan gained steam Friday, with Dana Larsen asking supporters to back his competitor as their second choice.
Larsen, a fringe candidate and marijuana advocate, announced his support for Horgan during a leadership debate this morning, little more than a week away from the end of the party's leadership contest. Larsen insists he will stay in the race until the final ballot.
This is the second day in a row Horgan has seen a swing in his favour.
Yesterday, Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons dropped out of the race at a press conference in Vancouver. The long shot candidate endorsed Horgan, calling him the best person to lead the party.
Meanwhile, Mike Farnworth has gotten another vote of support from a high profile British Columbian.
Former B.C. premier Mike Harcourt said Friday that he'll support Farnworth in his campaign.
The Port Coquitlam MLA, who calls himself the poll frontrunner in the race, calls himself the most electable candidate to head the party.
"The public has a sense of who I am, a sense that they like," Farnworth said.
Vancouver-Kingsway MLA Adrian Dix, the final candidate on the ballot, says he's the right person for the job.
Dix has won the support of the United Food and Commercial Workers, following earlier endorsements from the BC Ferry workers and the Office and Professional Employees unions.
The BC New Democrats will vote for a new leader on April 17.
