WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. -- A 17-year-old girl is being treated for serious injuries she sustained while diving near Vancouver.

The West Vancouver police say emergency personnel responded to a call Saturday afternoon that a diver was in distress at Whytecliff Park, a popular diving spot northwest of Vancouver.

A news release says other divers brought the girl, who was unconscious and unresponsive, to the shore.

She was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital in serious to critical condition.

The police say the injured diver, who is from the Lower Mainland, was taking a diving class with a qualified instructor.
