One person has been taken to hospital in custody following a bizarre police-involved shooting and vehicle fire in East Vancouver.
Just after 1 p.m., VPD were in the area of Hastings and Cassiar streets on an unrelated call when they were directed to a car fire in the McDonald’s parking lot.
Police say that when they went to deal with the fire, a man came at them with a knife.
The man, 28, was arrested and taken to hospital with non-life threatening gunshot and stab wounds, and is currently in stable condition.
Police say he is associated with the burning car.
The parking lot was taped off as Vancouver police officers investigate.
Footage obtained by CTV News showed a black car on fire in the lot behind a McDonald’s before a man was seen crawling on the ground away from officers. The car is badly charred.
Police warned that the area would be closed for several hours, and asked the public to avoid the area.
The IIO is also investigating the incident. Any potential witnesses are asked to call the IIO info line at 1-855-446-8477.
