LUMBY, B.C. -- A Lumby, B.C., resident remains in hospital in the Okanagan recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but RCMP say he has now been charged with second degree murder.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says Howard Everett was due to appear in provincial court in Kelowna on Monday but still requires medical care.

He was charged after officers were called to a property near Lumby, about 26 kilometres east of Vernon, on the evening of June 19.

Fifty-one-year-old Linda Marie Stewart was found dead in the home, along with an injured man.

Clark says Stewart was a school teacher in Vernon but few other details have been released.

Major crimes investigators and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to come forward.
