The two teenage girls accused in a violent stabbing spree along the SkyTrain line have had contact with police a staggering 142 times in the past 15 months.
The 14- and 15-year-old girls were arrested after three people were attacked with a steak knife in Surrey, New Westminster and Vancouver Monday night.
Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan said the incident started when the teens got into a fight with two other women outside of the Surrey Gateway Station around 11:30 p.m. One woman suffered stab wounds to the arm after an argument erupted between the group. She remains in hospital.
The teens then allegedly fled to New Westminster, where another woman was attacked. The pair exited the train at Joyce Street Station in Vancouver, where they are accused of attacking a man who was holding a pizza box. He fended off the knife attack by holding up the box, but still suffered a small cut to his finger.
The girls were arrested three minutes later, Drennan said.
They now face numerous charges including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Transit Police say the girls are part of a loosely organized crime group along SkyTrain, and believe the duo was involved in stealing cell phones from numerous passengers over the past year.
Transit police are looking for witnesses to call them at 604-515-8300.
