If you're thinking of buying a new TV to watch the Grey Cup this weekend, there are certain models and features that could give your sport viewing a competitive edge.

Plasma

Plasma produces amazing contrast with deeper blacks and it has high refresh rates, which means less motion blur.

“You're going to see a football go across the screen with a very swift image, as opposed to a very choppy image," said Roopsy Sharma of Best Buy.

Plasma’s also tend to be more affordable. They range in price from $400 to $1,000.

Ultra HD 4K

Forget about 3D. 4K is now the ultra-high definition television. The image is very crisp, like being right in the stadium with the fans.

Blu-Ray videos and Netflix are being remastered to watch in 4K. But you’re going to need a football player’s salary to afford one. The Samsung 55-inch 4K Ultra HD TV retails for $3,500. If you have really deep pockets, Samsung also makes an 85-inch ultra-high definition TV that goes for $40,000.

Taking it up a notch is the 4K curved screen television.

"When you look at this television, you're going to be able to see more of a wide screen image and just see more of whether it's a movie you're watching or the game," said Sharma.

OLED

The OLED TV’s are new. Their images are better than plasma or LED when it comes to colour because of the organic lighting technology. But they also tend to be more expensive.

LCD and LED

These TV’s are brighter than plasma, making it easy to see the Grey Cup action if you’re watching in a room with lots of natural light. They’re also thinner and more energy efficient.

Getting the right size

Before you decide which sized TV is best for you, get yourself a tape measure. Measure the distance between where you’re going to sit and the TV, in inches. Then divide that number by 2.5. That will give you your target screen size.
