Mounties are hunting for four suspects who allegedly tried to break into a Richmond home this month armed with what appear to be a shotgun and assault rifle.
Surveillance footage of the frightening home invasion attempt shows two men approaching the residence, located in the 4000-block of Blair Drive, late at night on Oct. 6.
They knock on the door, then step back. As the door opens, two other men, both wearing masks and apparently carrying large firearms, rush toward the entrance.
“The potential for serious injury was real and we are very concerned,” Cpl. Dennis Hwang said in a statement. “The home owner in this incident was very conscious of what was about to happen, slammed the door quickly, and called police.”
That quick-thinking could have spared the residents from “serious injury,” Hwang added.
Mounties said they don't believe the crime was random, but that the home owner has been cooperating with investigators.
One suspect’s face was caught on the home’s surveillance cameras, and the RCMP released the footage on Wednesday in the hopes that someone will recognize him.
He is described as white, in his late-teens or early-20s, 5-10 tall, with a medium build and straight, dark brown hair.
“If you recognize any of the suspects or have any information about this crime, please contact us immediately,” Hwang said.
Tipsters are asked to contact the Richmond RCMP detachment at 604-278-1212, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS to remain anonymous.
