Four people are recovering in hospital following a stabbing spree in Abbotsford Saturday evening.
Police were called to the 31400 block of Springhill Court just after 8:30 p.m. following multiple reports that a man with a knife was stabbing people.
A witness who was scared for her safety and did not want her face on camera told CTV News that she witnessed the suspect run at the victims.
“I kinda just panicked. I hid beside the house and then I saw him run and go towards them and then I kinda just ran beside the house and then ran to the next-door neighbours,” the woman said.
Abbotsford police and the Emergency Response Team surrounded the area and Abbotsford Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance also attended to help locate the four adult victims and take them to the hospital.
The victims suffered various injuries and at least one was in very serious condition, according to police.
Cst. Ian MacDonald of the Abbotsford Police Department said the incident may have stemmed from a gathering in a basement suite and the suspect was soon arrested.
“We also located a man in his 30s in a basement suite who we believe to be the suspect. We took that man into custody,” he said.
MacDonald said the victim's conditions improved and they were in stable condition on Sunday.
The Major Crime Unit and the forensic unit of the Abbotsford Police Department are investigating.
The suspect is known to police with a criminal record that includes drug charges.
His name is expected to be released within the next few days after formal assault charges are filed.
