A small town in B.C.'s East Kootenays is injecting a little more personality into its road signs.

Crews in Sparwood have installed a speed reader board that displays either frowning or smiling emojis at motorists, depending on whether they’re driving within the limit.

The battery-powered sign also points out just how fast drivers are going.

Officials in the town, located east of Cranbrook near the Alberta border, said another speed board is being installed in a playground area, and that one will be moved to a local school zone in the fall.
