An atheist ad campaign that was rejected by Canada’s biggest billboard company has been resurrected in Metro Vancouver.
The Centre for Inquiry Canada announced Monday that CBS Outdoor had agreed to run its ads on a Burnaby billboard and two downtown Vancouver bus shelters.
“CFI is a voice for millions of Canadians who question the need for religion to live a good, meaningful life,” the group’s president Kevin Smith said in a statement.
“We’re pleased to bring their message into the public square.”
The designs, which replace religious proverbs with humanist slogans, were rejected by Pattison Outdoor earlier this year.
The company told CTV News it had no issue with the nature of the ads, but required minor tweaks to comply with industry standards.
The Centre said CBS Outdoor ran the ads without any changes.
The campaign was funded by an anonymous donation of $20,000, which was paid on condition that it be used toward a billboard for the organization in the Vancouver area.
One of the ads depicts a smiling woman holding a coffee next to the words “Jenn 13:1.”
Underneath it reads, “Praying won’t help. Doing will.”
CFI Canada said it’s now hoping to raise enough money to post the ads across Canada.
