Video of a B.C. homeowner purportedly finding a drunk stranger in his bed and politely coaxing him out is being dubbed “the most Canada thing ever" online.
The footage, which has been viewed nearly 1.5 million times on YouTube, starts after the tipsy intruder had already supposedly managed to enter a North Vancouver residence, crawl into a bed, and slip under the blankets.
The good-humoured homeowner then breaks the news about what happened.
“You’re in the completely wrong house. You’ve never seen me before in your life, I’ve never seen you before,” he says.
“I really just want to go to sleep, so,” the stranger replies.
The homeowner continues to press on, with little luck.
“You’re in my bed,” he says.
“I own this bed,” the stranger counters. “I literally own it. Like, I pay taxes for this bed.”
Eventually, the homeowner manages to convince the intoxicated man to get up and look around the house, which he recognizes as somewhere he used to live.
“Man, this is so weird,” he says. “Where are my shoes?”
The homeowner, having an extra bed available, then offers to put the stranger up for the night, which he gratefully accepts.
The exchange ends with both men exchanging pleasantries.
“Have a nice night,” one says.
“Nice to meet you,” says the other.
CTV News spoke with the homeowner, who asked not to be identified. He said the man returned to the house later and apologized for what happened.
