A retired B.C. Mountie who shot his common-law wife to death at their Penticton home has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

A jury convicted Keith Gregory Wiens Tuesday night in Kelowna Supreme Court.

Court heard the 57-year-old was fighting with Lynn Kalmring the night of Aug. 16, 2011 when he shot her point-blank with a 9 mm pistol.

The victim, a 55-year-old nurse, was found with a large knife in her hand, though Crown prosecutors suggested it may have been placed there after the deadly altercation.

The deceased’s sister testified that Kalmring called her crying about money issues the night she was killed.

Wiens retired from the RCMP in 2001.
