The autopsy of Karen Nabors, the second of two online escorts who were found dead in the same New Westminster apartment building this month, has come back inconclusive.

The causes of death for both Nabors, 48, and Jill Lyons, 45, remain unknown but police are still awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound confirmed the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is still leading the probes into each suspicious death, and repeated a public warning for other escorts and sex workers.

“We continue to ask those engaging in a high-risk lifestyle to remain vigilant,” Pound said in a statement.

Sex trade advocates have criticized police for failing to issue a warning after Lyons’ death on Aug. 12, evoking the failures of the Robert Pickton investigation, which saw the disappearances of dozens of vulnerable women ignored.

But the RCMP said Tuesday that a warning wasn’t issued because there was evidence Lyons’ death may have been a suicide, and authorities do not generally publicize information on suicides.

When Nabors was found dead on Aug. 25, there was evidence of foul play, according to Pound.

The close timing and proximity of the discoveries led police to deem the deaths suspicious, but no other details have been released.
