Rescue crews airlifted three lost hikers by helicopter longline off of Grouse Mountain Sunday afternoon.

The North Shore Search and Rescue Team was called after two women and one man became disoriented while trekking through some rugged trails. One of the women suffered a twisted ankle.

Search team member Tim Jones says he doesn’t blame the hikers for becoming lost on the BCMC trail.

“It’s a very poorly marked trail, lots of switchbacks. So we’re probably going to take it upon ourselves to do some more marking,” he said.

Inaccurate readings from the hikers’ GPS device delayed the rescue.

“The GPS was off, the coordinates were off, so it can happen. Those coordinates sometimes are very accurate, sometimes aren’ t accurate,” Jones said.
