Mourners gathered at the Good Shepherd Church in Surrey to say a final goodbye to Nikki Alemy, the mother of two who died February 16 when the white Cadillac she was driving was sprayed with automatic gunfire.

Her four-year-old son was in the backseat at the time of the attack but escaped injury.

A cascade of roses graced the coffin of the 23-year-old, and six young men carried her casket from the church this afternoon after a private service. Friends mourning their loss can't believe that such a beautiful, young mother is gone.

"I saw her just a week and a half ago and she was absolutely beautiful. We all just loved her because she was so delightful," said mourner Marie Geiger. "We're just praying that justice will be done here because this is so tragic. She was so young and so innocent."

At Tuesday's noon-hour funeral there was also a heavy police presence.

RCMP members patrolled the streets and parking lot during the church service, keeping a watchful eye on everyone coming and going from the church.

"What it indicates is that, at minimum, there is one killer, if not more, on the loose, who is capable of killing this woman in an execution in broad daylight," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Peter Thiessen. "The person or persons responsible for this homicide are still on the loose."

Police says tips continue to come in about Alemy's murder, and the investigation is active.
