British Columbians should brace themselves for a “bone-chilling” blast of icy winter weather this weekend, according to Environment Canada.

The weather agency has issued a winter storm watch for Metro Vancouver and the B.C. coast.

A high pressure system is expected to force dense Arctic air south while simultaneously, a Pacific warm front brings rain and warm air to the coast.

The combination will result in a messy mix of rain and snow, which will hit the region starting Saturday evening and continuing through Sunday.

Environment Canada said the Pacific air will likely bring heavy snowfall to some inland regions of B.C., which could also lead to treacherous freezing rain.

The storm is expected to into a steady flow of warm moist air in the early part of next week.
