An artist who put up a fake sign re-naming Guelph Park in East Vancouver as "Dude Chilling Park" got some validation Monday night.
The Vancouver Park Board voted to give the sign a permanent home in the park, but they stopped short of officially changing its name.
The board removed the sign after it was first put up, but the public outcry and a petition forced them to reconsider.
“It had a lot of community support -– worldwide even and throughout Canada, so we’re pretty excited about it,” said park board commissioner Sarah Blyth.
Blyth says at least 22 of Vancouver’s parks are nameless and it would be a fun idea to get the public to name them.
The park board also approved a proposal to allow kitesurfers to launch from the western end of Spanish banks where it was previously banned.
It's a one-year pilot program that could become permanent if it goes well.
The Squamish Windsport Society made the request for a Vancouver launch site for the increasingly popular sport.
