A Vancouver Canucks defenceman and his wife have donated $100,000 towards the construction of a new Ronald McDonald House.
The donation by Dan and Sarah Hamhuis will help build the new 73-room facility on the grounds of BC Children's Hospital.
Once complete, the new house will be the second-largest Ronald McDonald House in Canada and will be a home-away-from-home for the families of children seeking medical treatment.
Construction on the house is scheduled to begin this fall, with a completion date set for January 2014.
