After moving to clear a backlog of stranded passengers, Vancouver Airport was gearing up for yet another snowstorm on Tuesday night.

"Our runway cleaning crews are out there prepping runways with some de-icing chemicals to make sure when snowfall hits, the first wave doesn't stick on the runway,'' said Airport spokesman Don Ehrenholz

On Tuesday afternoon some travellers had been waiting since the previous snow storm on Sunday, only to face repeated cancellations and delays. In some cases, passengers waited for hours, only to board a plane and wait more hours on the tarmac.

It is why tempers began to flare on Monday evening as some 500 weary travellers faced another night in the airport. "I've been here since yesterday and I have a family in Edmonton. Is that what they want me to do, cry and not be able to go home?" one woman said.

A spokesperson for Air Canada said the airliner is doing its best and has added extra flights to deal with the backlog.

Vancouver Airports' Ehrenholz said he hoped that most stranded passengers would be out on their way by late Tuesday.
