The suspect in a fatal Port Coquitlam stabbing Sunday afternoon is on the loose, officials confirmed Monday.
At about 1:15 p.m Coquitlam RCMP received a report of an assault at the parking of the Shaughnessy Square Shopping Centre where they found 55-year-old Robert Harold Vidovich suffering from serious injuries.
Witnesses said he had a large wound across his stomach.
“I went up to the guy and went up to see if he was OK or if he needed any help. There was nothing really we could do right, he was he was cut up really bad,” one witness said.
Vidovich was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said the suspect stabbed Vidovich with “an edged weapon” and took off on foot.
A police dog assisted investigators but the suspect could not be found.
“IHIT continues to work alongside the Forensics Unit, the Coroner’s Service, and the Coquitlam RCMP in an effort to identify and locate the male suspect,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster in a statement.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, possibly wearing a black hoodie, pants and backpack, 5-8 to 5-10 tall, and weighing 150 pounds.
Vidovich’s next of kin has been notified of his death. Investigators said it is unclear if he knew the attacker.
