Students at Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver were permitted to leave their classrooms on Thursday afternoon, following a decision to lift a lockdown that had been in effect since about 1:00 p.m.

About 1,100 students were allowed to leave in groups of 50 at around 5:00 p.m.

CTV News learned it was a Code 3 lockdown and that parents and students were told not to use the cell phones or send any text messages.

Police swarmed the area around the school after receiving a call around lunchtime that someone at the school had a gun. The students were then kept inside as officers searched room by room.

Nothing was found and the students were released.
