Snowfall in store for B.C. highways
There will be more snowy conditions on some B.C. highways going into the weekend, according to Environment Canada.
The federal weather agency issued a snowfall warning for the Sea to Sky near Whistler Friday, saying the precipitation will begin in the evening and last through Saturday afternoon.
It said up to 20 centimetres of snow are expected on the highway between Brandywine Falls and Whistler, while it’ll be rainy south of Brandywine to Howe Sound.
“Snow will be heaviest Saturday morning, before transitioning to light showers or wet flurries by Saturday afternoon,” the alert reads. “Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
Meanwhile, Environment Canada says to expect snow on three Interior highway passes, but a warning has not been issued. A special weather statement says up to 15 centimetres could accumulate in areas of the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt, Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass and the Trans-Canada Highway between Malakwa and Eagle Pass.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” forecasters said.
