The snowstorm that blew into the South Coast overnight was less intense than anticipated, but warnings remain in effect for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
Earlier this week, Environment Canada forecasted the storm would deliver between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow in areas of the Lower Mainland, but those predictions were dialed back significantly on Friday.
"Snowfall amounts over most areas are expected to be around 5 cm," the agency said.
Some parts of the region could still see between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow, however. More flurries are forecast later in the day, particularly in the Fraser Valley, but the snow is expected to start mixing with rain throughout most of Metro Vancouver.
Commuters should still expect to face potential complications, Environment Canada cautioned.
"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate," it said in an alert.
