Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old Richmond man after a violent altercation on Monday night.
Richmond RCMP found one man seriously injured after they were called to the 5500 block of Cooney Road near Landsdowne Mall after 10 p.m.
The man was taken to Richmond General Hospital and later died from his injuries.
"We have recovered a weapon," said Cpl. Dale Carr with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). "It's going to be analyzed to see if that is the weapon that was involved in this altercation and what role it played."
A nearby resident said she heard a commotion outside shortly after 10 p.m. and went out to take a look.
"I was watching my TV and I heard people yelling downstairs, so I knew something was going on, that somebody was getting hurt," said the woman, who declined to give her name. "So I went to look and I saw a guy running the other way, and the other (guy) laying on the ground."
IHIT is investigating whether there are any links to gangs, drugs or other Metro Vancouver homicides.
They are notifying next of kin before they will release the victim's identity. He was not known to police.
