A rare Disney fireworks display north of the border is one of the highlights of the B.C. long weekend festivities in Vancouver.
“We don’t do very many competitions,” said Walt Disney Entertainment principal firework designer Brad Ciccotti.
He said Saturday’s Celebration of Light show, put on by Team U.S.A., will be an homage to Disney’s top hits.
“'Little Mermaid,' there’s a lot of blue and green, 'Pirates of the Caribbean' there’s a lot of red, 'Lion King' there’s a lot of orange and yellow,” he said.
The weekend is the busiest of the year for BC Ferries and lineups were already starting to grow in the Tsawwassen terminal Friday morning.
“We've got all of our vessels operating, [the] largest vessels we can on the routes with the highest demand,” said BC Ferries spokesperson Darin Guenette.
The Vancouver Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, when Justin Trudeau will make history as the first sitting prime minister to walk in the parade.
High temperatures means people will likely explore the beautiful B.C. wilderness. North Shore Rescue is warning hikers to consider the risks before heading out into the mountains. In 2015 the August long weekend was one of the busiest on record for the rescue team with at least 10 rescue call outs.
