The city is hosting an open house in downtown Vancouver on Wednesday to gather feedback from the public on the redesign of Granville Street from Drake to Cordova Streets.
The open house takes place at the Pacific Centre Atrium at the Northeast corners of Georgia and Howe Streets until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
City project manager Andreea Toma says the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
"Everyone is happy we're doing something special," she said. "It's rare that we are redeveloping the whole corridor, from bridge to water."
The city says feedback from the public will be used to "refine technical components" of the design, including sidewalk materials, street furniture, lighting and trees.
The current design includes a row of vertical lights which would be mounted twelve feet above street level and a "civic space" stretching from Robson to Georgia Street.
Calling the light design "Great white way" after the historical name for the area, the vertical lights would stretch for an extended thirty feet in the so-called "civic space," and ten feet high in the rest of the Granville corridor.
The redesign will cost the city $11 million.
"We're designing a street that allows for opportunities to happen," Toma said.
The idea for the redesign began with city council's approval in 2002 and has been in development with the public's consultation since 2004.
Details of the design are due to be reported to city council in March.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July.
