A man and woman are in custody following an alleged convenience store robbery in Richmond Friday morning.

The couple allegedly robbed a convenience store in the 8000 block of No. 3 Road just after 6:30 a.m. before escaping in a stolen car.

Police said the man allegedly threatened the clerk with pepper spray during the robbery while his female accomplice kept watch. According to Richmond media relations officer Cpl. Stephanie Ashton the suspects took money along with personal items from the store clerk.

A witness reported the licence plate of the getaway car and a Vancouver police dog service officer found a “suspicious” couple walking near the suspect vehicle minutes after the alleged robbery. With the help of two other investigators, the pair were taken into custody.

Vancouver residents Harry Nahanee, age 25, and 32-year-old Abby Warrington were arrested and returned to Richmond. They face charges relating to robbery, possession of stolen property, and outstanding warrants.

The witness left the scene before police arrived and RCMP are asking the person who gave the licence plate to the store clerk to contact Richmond RCMP.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact Richmond RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
