VANCOUVER -- Vancouver Fire Rescue Services says one person has died after an apartment fire Friday night.
Capt. Jonathan Gormick says Vancouver fire crews responded to four different fires, starting at 8:30 p.m. Friday and lasting through to Saturday morning.
One person was rescued from the first fire, which broke out in an apartment building in the Kitsilano neighbourhood, but died from their injuries in hospital.
Gormick says one firefighter was later hurt and fell through a floor while battling a blaze at a vacant property at about 10 p.m.
The firefighter, who is now undergoing tests and recovering in hospital, was able to partially rescue themselves before further help arrived.
Later that night, Gormick says crews were able to extinguish a fire at a seniors care facility downtown before putting out a blaze stemming from a mattress fire on Saturday morning.
