One worker is dead and another is in critical condition after a construction accident in Chilliwack, B.C. Friday morning.

The accident occurred at a townhouse construction site in the 4500-block of Tamihi Way in the Garrison Crossing area at 8 a.m.

Coroners confirmed one worker is dead and a second has been rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital by air ambulance. A third person was also injured in the accident.

WorkSafeBC said it appears a concrete pumper truck fell forward, crushing workers. Witnesses told CTV News they heard a large bang, and then police and ambulance rushed to the scene.

“I noticed a bunch of people on the construction site moving around rapidly, and I could tell right away something had gone terrible amiss,” said Mark Lawrence. “I saw the concrete boom truck lying over on its side, and I saw an unfortunate fellow underneath part of the boom.”

The company, Algra Brothers Construction, wouldn't comment on the accident, but said their thoughts are with the people injured.

WorkSafeBC and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the accident.
