With less than a day until the opening ceremonies begin at the Beijing Olympics, protesters are ramping up their efforts in Vancouver, B.C.

Groups including the Falun Dafa Association and the Canada Tibet Committee are planning a rally Thursday afternoon at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The rally will be followed by a march to the Chinese consulate on Granville Street.

The protest will continue Friday with a vigil, a 24-hour fast and candle lighting outside the consulate office.

Police arrested a pro-Tibetan demonstrator Wednesday outside of the Chinese consulate building after he tried to encase his arm into a bucket of fresh cement.

A small group of protesters -- including members of the outspoken group 'Students for a Free Tibet' - set up a replica tank blocking the driveway of the building.

It is the same student group that garnered international attention by hanging a banner from the Great Wall of China last year.

The protesting in B.C. and around the world is expected to continue for the duration of the Olympic Games to show their outrage at China's human rights violations - including what they believe is a brutal crackdown on dissenters.
