Olympic-only traffic lanes took effect on many major Vancouver roads Thursday, the next phase of the transportation plan leading up to the beginning of the 2010 Games.
TransLink buses, emergency vehicles and Olympic accredited vehicles will be the only ones allowed in the curb or right-hand lane of the following roads until March 1:
- Burrard St, Burrard Bridge to Pender St
- Seymour St, Granville Bridge to Hastings St
- Howe St, Hastings St to Granville Bridge
- Pender St, Cambie St to Howe St
- Cambie St, Cambie Bridge to 59th Ave
- Broadway, Arbutus St to Commercial Dr
- Georgia St, Richards St to the Stanley Park Causeway
- Hastings St, Seymour St to Boundary Rd
The restrictions are in effect 24 hours a day.
Any cars stopped or parked in Olympic lanes face a $100 fine plus an automatic tow. Anyone caught driving in an Olympic lane will be handed a $121 ticket, plus two demerit points on your license.
These newest changes come one day ahead of the most major transportation change of the Games. Beginning Friday, both the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts will close to cars.
