Upscale department store Nordstrom is bringing more than fashion to its new Vancouver location: the retailer is promising 1,000 new jobs.

The 230,000-square-foot Vancouver flagship location, which takes over the space previously occupied by Sears at Robson and Granville streets, has undergone a massive renovation and is slated to open Sept. 18.

The Seattle-based retailer is now hiring sales positions for its clothing and cosmetics departments, as well as its coffee bar and two restaurants. There are also many positions in maintenance, loss prevention and housekeeping.

A full list of positions is expected to be published on the company’s website on Tuesday, May 19.

All full-time employees will have dental, medical and vision benefits, an RRSP matching program and a 20 per cent retail discount.

“Nordstrom is a great place to build a career, something I’ve experienced firsthand over the course of my 23 years with the company,” Chris Wanlass, store manager for Nordstrom Pacific Centre, said in a statement issued to media.

“This is our third store in Canada, so it’s an exciting time to be a part of Nordstrom and get in on the ground floor as we continue our growth across the country.”
