One man is dead and another is in custody after a stabbing at a home in a small village in central B.C., according to authorities.

The Anahim Lake RCMP were called to a residence on Monday evening for a report of a fight, where they found a 26-year-old victim suffering from stab wounds.

"EHS and police performed life saving measures, however the man succumbed to his injuries," a media release from Mounties said.

"A 22-year-old Nimpo Lake resident, known to the victim, was arrested without incident and is currently in custody. Police believe this to be targeted and there is no risk to the public."

The RCMP's North District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call 250-742-3211.
