Two Mounties are facing an internal investigation after a bar fight in Kelowna, B.C., spilled out onto the street last summer, resulting in assault charges against three men and the injury of an off-duty member.
"This alleged assault involved a ‘shoulder bump' inside then night club and is believed to have instigated the much larger altercation that later took place outside," Cpl. Annie Linteau said in a statement.
On August 7, 2009, two off-duty RCMP officers allegedly exchange blows with several men who were part of a larger group wearing colours associated with the Hells Angels and Throttle Rockers biker groups.
Const. Chris MacDonald, 40, of Prince Edward Island, and Const. Kiel Samotej, 25, of Alberta, were vacationing and together visited B.C with other RCMP members and acquaintances. Both men are charged with assaulting an unidentified man and will appear in Kelowna court April 22.
On Friday, Errol Milsom-Gardener, a 25-year-old Kelowna resident, was also charged with assault causing bodily harm for his alleged attack on Const. MacDonald. He will appear in Kelowna court April 8.
Following the altercation, Const. MacDonald, whose was with a group of about seven people, was taken to Kelowna General Hospital for overnight observation. Other members of his group also sustained minor injuries.
Both officers remain on duty while an internal investigation takes place.
