A Surrey RCMP officer has been charged with assault.
Const. Joe Kane is accused of assaulting an individual following a vehicle stop in January 2008.
Kane is also facing one count of assault causing bodily harm, stemming from a separate incident that occurred in April 2008 where he is accused of assaulting an acquaintance while off-duty.
Kane is presently on sick leave. The Surrey RCMP will review his duty status upon his return.
