MIDWAY, B.C. - The RCMP say an officer fired his gun through the windshield of his own vehicle when his truck was rammed by a stolen pickup truck near Midway, in south-central B.C.
Police were trying to stop a Ford F-250 when its driver smashed into the police truck, and the Mountie decided to shoot at the Ford when he was unable to get out of his own vehicle.
No one was hurt and the driver and another man in the Ford ran away when other officers arrived.
The driver was later arrested after banging on the door of a nearby residence saying he'd been in an accident, while a male passenger gave himself up along with a female passenger.
Police say they are recommending several charges against the driver of the Ford, a 35-year-old Rock Creek man, including assaulting a police officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
An investigation is also underway into the officer's decision to fire his weapon.
