New cases of seniors abuse are coming from a troubled care home, one CTV News has investigated before.

Summerland Seniors Village, operated by Retirement Concepts, opened only two and a half years ago, but it's already been investigated seven times by Interior Health.

The most recent investigation found more cases of abuse.

"We received concerns expressed about how a particular resident was physically handled," said Medical Health Officer Dr. Paul Hasselback.

According to Interior Health, a male care aid was abusive with an elderly dementia patient and used "excessive force while interacting with a resident and verbal abuse."

The care aid was suspended, and subsequently resigned.

Another case involved a 91-year-old resident who fell and fractured her wrist and pelvis.

While a letter from the doctor indicated staff followed correct procedure in dealing with the incident, Interior Health concluded that there was "neglect through a lack of timely response to a resident's medical needs after a fall."

Another change at the troubled facility is the departure of General Manager Barbara Goertzen. She recently resigned and a temporary manager is in charge.

"The plans and approaches taken by the operator, we feel are quite in keeping with what was appropriate," said Hasselback.

Many details of the investigation are posted on the Retirement Concepts website, but a promise in March by B.C.'s health minister to be more transparent and post all inspection reports of all care homes on the web still has not been fulfilled.

"I think it is a fairly complex process so I'm not disappointed by the timelines at this point," said George Abbott.

Abbott said he hopes to have the system in place this fall. Meanwhile, the NDP says issues at Summerland are indicative of a much bigger problem in seniors care in B.C.

"Clearly we have issues with health care levels, with the number of hours of care that most seniors get," said Dix.

Retirement Concepts has promised more training for staff.
