The driver of a pickup truck was killed after crashing with a snow plow along Highway 97C in B.C.'s Okanagan on Wednesday, according to the RCMP.

Authorities said the incident happened approximately three kilometres west of Highway 97, outside West Kelowna.

Investigators believe the pickup was "attempting to pass" the snow plow when the vehicles collided, the West Kelowna RCMP detachment said in a news release.

"We offer our sincerest condolences and thoughts to the family of the victim," said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

Authorities believe road conditions were a significant factor in the crash.

The incident forced the closure of Highway 97C westbound for several hours, but the route has since been reopened.
