VICTORIA -

Two law-and-order B.C. cabinet ministers are off to Ottawa to lobby for tougher anti-gang laws, but they will miss one of their prime targets.

Attorney General Wally Oppal and Solicitor General John van Dongen will be on Parliament Hill tomorrow fighting gangs, while Prime Minister Stephen Harper is scheduled to be in British Columbia outlining his government's anti-crime agenda.

Numerous shootings connected to gang violence in Metro Vancouver have politicians scrambling to give police more ammunition to fight criminals who have been killing each other in broad daylight.

Oppal and van Dongen will meet with federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson where they'll ask for tougher sentencing, disclosure and surveillance laws to fight gangs.

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association says the provincial government should look to offering more supports to the court system as opposed to promoting themselves in what appears to be pre-election meetings.

The B.C. New Democrats say the Ottawa meeting has a Keystone Cops flavour because it appears the prime minister and the two B.C. ministers will pass by each other while on their way to address the same issue.
