The mother of Amanda Todd, the Port Coquitlam teenager who took her own life after relentless bullying, says a memorial honouring her daughter has been stolen.
Carol Todd bought the stone plaque, which reads “A beautiful soul is never forgotten,” soon after her daughter’s death.
There is no grave site for Amanda Todd, so they placed the stone under a snowflake tree in the family's front yard.
"This is the place where I can think about her and have those special thoughts," she said. "It was just meaningful to me. To see it gone was heartbreaking and sad."
Todd shared a Facebook status with her friends about the incident and it managed to go viral.
The stone is not visible from the street and Todd is unsure who would have taken it.
"There’s lots of people out there who even though they never knew her they feel they were a part of her life, or they would like to have a piece of her as a token of remembrance. Maybe that was it," she said.
A Surrey stone engraving company was quick to offer a replacement for the lost memorial.
"It immediately resonated with me," said Andrea Hakesley, with Stonemarks Engraving. "I thought 'We can do something about this'."
The company has offered to create an exact replica or offer a differently designed stone, depending on Todd's wishes.
However Todd is still holding out hope someone who knows where the memorial is and will return it.
