Outgoing Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan is promising full accountability over funding to the Olympic athletes village - but not yet.
In an open letter, Sullivan says keeping details of negotiations between city officials and the project's partners confidential is the law.
Sullivan is responding to increasing criticism of city council around a $100 million loan to the company building the athletes village for the 2010 Olympics.
The loan was reportedly authorized at a closed-door city council meeting and then the details were leaked to the media.
It's become an issue in the upcoming Vancouver elections with Sullivan's political heir defending the secret decision while the opposing parties call for full disclosure.
Sullivan says the best interests of taxpayers aren't served by `conducting negotiations by headline,' and as soon as lawyers give the OK, details of deal will be released.
