The man who hit a Vancouver gas station attendant and dragged him to his death is being released from prison this summer.
Darnell Pratt was 16-years-old when he pulled into a Maple Ridge gas station in March 2005 in a stolen car.
Attendant Grant De Patie noticed the car's ignition had been punched out with a screwdriver and wrote down the license plate. Pratt took off, hitting De Patie who got caught under the vehicle. He was dragged for 7.5 kilometres.
Pratt will be eligible for statutory release in June, according to the National Parole Board, after serving seven years in prison. He was originally sentenced to nine years, but his sentence was reduced on appeal.
The board may impose conditions on Pratt's release.
In 2008, De Patie's parents successfully campaigned for the creation of a law requiring drivers to pay before they pump gas.
It was named Grant's Law in their son's honour.
