A 56-year-old woman, who was involved in a domestic dispute in which a man was shot dead by RCMP, has died.
The man was shot dead Tuesday morning by police in the B.C. Interior town of 100 Mile House.
The woman in the incident died on-route to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops later in the day.
RCMP spokeswoman Annie Linteau said police responded to a call that a woman went to a neighbour's residence and told them she'd been shot.
"We attended the area and a man allegedly exited a residence armed with a shotgun," Linteau said.
"An RCMP member discharged his service pistol at the man, striking him and the man was pronounced dead at the scene."
His name has not been released.
When asked if police attempted to strike up a dialogue with the man before he was shot, Linteau said it's still very early in the investigation.
"Those details are not available at this time. We're still in the process of interviewing everyone involved," she said.
RCMP said major crimes officers will conduct an investigation of the shooting and an observer for the RCMP Public Complaints Commission will monitor.
Nelson Kalil, spokesman for the commission, said a civilian member has been sent to 100 Mile House, a small logging and farming community located 500 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
"It's just to ensure, during the initial stages, the impartiality of the members involved in the investigation," he said. "We do this for serious incidents like fatal shootings."
