A 28-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital after being trapped underneath a car that crashed into a water-filled ditch.
Just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, RCMP was called to Dogwood Avenue near 232nd Street in Maple Ridge. A car had driven into a water-filled ditch, trapping the man underneath the vehicle.
Police say the man remained trapped until firefighters were able to use airbags to lift the car and rescue him. Paramedics were later seen performing CPR inside an ambulance.
The cause of Wednesday's crash is not immediately clear, and an investigation is ongoing. The driver of the car, a 29-year-old Maple Ridge man, and a female passenger were not seriously injured in the accident.
This is the second crash involving a water-filled ditch Ridge Meadows RCMP has responded to in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday a 35-year-old Abbotsford man died after crashing a truck into a ditch in Pitt Meadows.
