One man is dead after a car plunged off a government dock into the Fraser River in Fort Langley, B.C. Friday afternoon.

It happened just after noon off the dock owned by the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) next to the Albion Ferry terminal.

Divers have recovered the body of a man in his 40's, and his 1984 Firebird, from the icy river.

It is believed the man was the only occupant of the vehicle.

RCMP Const. Holly Marks says police don't know how it ended up in the river, but crews have begun inspecting the car now that it is out of the water.

Marks says they'll also be interviewing witnesses to see if they can give any hint about what may have caused the incident.

The ferry terminal has been shut down temporarily. A spokesperson for TransLink says two ferries were used as platforms for the divers searching for survivors.

In the meantime, traffic is being rerouted away from the area.

The ferry makes trips every 15 minutes on weekdays, with a sailing time of approximately 10 minutes.
