Multiple reports surfaced Saturday evening that an RCMP officer shot a suspect who was allegedly brandishing a knife on a SkyTrain.

Transit Police confirmed the Independent Investigations Office was called to the scene of the incident and that there was a police-involved shooting in Surrey at Scott Road Station.

The IIO is an independent authority established to investigate police-related incidents involving death or serious harm.

Initial reports that the suspect allegedly stabbed a passenger on the train, headed eastbound from Gateway to Scott Road SkyTrain station, are yet to be confirmed.

Transit service to Scott Road Station was halted while a police investigation was underway.

The suspect’s condition is not known at this time.
